Under Pressure

Despite the fact that I’m generally not a very girly girl, I do enjoy sipping a bottle of vino (or three) with my lady mates.  They are a very good bunch indeed - I’ve done well there.  I’d like to point out that I make every effort to ensure that we in no way resemble Carrie and her cronies, but inevitably when you talk about your lives, the subject of men folk does come up.

Recently, one of my loveliest friends, let’s call her Doris, was voicing her woes over a situation with her fella, let’s call him Juan (who said pseudonyms can’t be international?).  Juan and Doris have been together for just over a year now, and of late they’ve been squabbling an awful lot more than usual. Inevitably their arguments result in heated and exhausting discussions over whether or not they should move in together, where their relationship is going and a whole host of other pretty scary stuff.   Yikes.  You see all their pals are either getting engaged (!) or bunking up with their other halves.   It’s obvious that peer pressure is wearing them down.

Roses are red, violets are blue, I like your status and I might poke you!

Firstly, I’ll give you a second to take in the genius that is the title of this blog.  I am seriously considering a career as a poet based on this alone.  Well, perhaps not.

Like most people these days, I use Facebook.  I log in a couple of times a day, catch up with friends/family abroad and generally keep in touch with my mates closer to home.  From what I can tell, everybody is having a super fun crazy time (all of the time).  Brilliant.  Facebook is a public demonstration of the best or funniest version of ourselves, so most folk tend to take it with a pinch of salt.

Have a Little Faith...

I am very proud of myself.  This weekend saw the tenth anniversary of the first couple that I ever set up.  Yup.  That’s right.  Ten whole years!  I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing Ben Croft and Liza Smith huge congratulations, I hope that the next ten years (and beyond) will be equally brilliant.  Now I have a feeling that we can all learn a lot from these two and their tale, so I’m going to tell you a bit more about them.  Brace yourselves, given that this is my finest achievement as a matchmaker, it’s going to be a long one…
